The marketplace is bracing itself for the 2010 North American International Auto Show. This years show will no doubt provide insight into the health of the market for 2010. If the mood is anything like the LA Show which was more upbeat this year

Detroit will surely delight.

You have to give GM some credit for offering a try it before you keep it idea. It is BOLD and certainly being
BOLD is something GM needs to do right now. Bob Lutz and
Ed Whitacre may be onto something. The concept of "if we can get butts in the seats" they will buy, is…

Is brand-building becoming less valued online? Is the drive for higher ROI starting to optimize out the "weaker-performing" placements that build brand? Will consumers convert for brands that have no brand equity? Is this a cycle heading in the wrong direction?
Word of the Day: Pigeonholed
It's a great time to be in the world of digital advertising! Things have never been better, our budgets keep growing while other mediums are declining,…

I was recently asked by a dealer “What is Twitter?”, I thought about that a bit and my answer came out like this. “Twitter is a one-to-many, one-way, Instant Messenger”. That got the point across in an easy way, I thought.
Then I got the harder question… “Ok how do we use this in our dealership?”
Well, that one stumped me for a moment. Like all social media, a marketer must find the right way to use these things- using them the wrong way can have really negative repercussions. The thing about…

There appears to be a tremendous opportunity for marketers to harness the government aid from the Cash for Guzzlers program. As most of you already know, President Obama signed into law a program NHTSA is calling the Car Allowance Rebate System
(CARS). This is a government program that helps the consumer purchase a new, more fuel efficient vehicle when they trade in a less fuel efficient vehicle.
Many marketers I have been speaking with are already p…

Now that the Federal Government's strangely name "Cash For Clunkers" automotive sales stimulus bill has been approved by both the House of Representatives and the US Senate, many dealership management teams are making plans and preparing their marketing, advertising and promotional messages designed to leverage the $1,000,000,000.00 earmarked as cash incentives to customers for buying a newer, more fuel efficient vehicle... With the cash on the hood at between $3,500 and $4,500 per vehicle sold,…

I am continuing to see questions surrounding social media marketing, if you ask me this is a bit of an oxymoron. Social Media the very name sums it up I socialize with my friends not my car dealer. For me this is a lot like CRM (Customer Relationship Management), as car dealers, always needing to be in control we took CRM and made it into something that we wanted it to be instead of asking ourselves what the customer wants.
My opinion... you don't do social media marketing, your customer do it.…

As accurately pointed out by CEO Rani Peyton from OnWheels Media, "missing in news reports on Chrysler and General Motors is the enormous role that they play in society, which touches almost every area of our lives, especially our children. The focus has been primarily on the numbers, leaving out the social leadership activities of Chrysler, General Motors and Ford."
The media has placed such tremendous focus on the news around loss of jobs and the big "B", what they have failed to mention, whe…

Our industry is enduring one of the toughest adjustments in years. Dropping from double digit sales levels down to singles of 8-9.5 million means that our advertising partner’s advertisements need to be more effective than ever. The question in this market is, how do we measure what’s effective and what does this word “effective” really mean any more? How do the clicks, leads and impressions we buy work to deliver results?
In recent weeks, I have had the opportunity to speak with many clients a…
